Rural Fire Assistance

The Rural Fire Assistance Program provides technical and financial support to fire departments throughout the Nation to assist them with protecting communities with populations of less than 10,000 people. These local fire departments are often the first line of defense in meeting the protection needs for wildland-urban interface areas threatened by wildfire. The Rural Fire Assistance program focuses on increasing firefighter safety and enhancing the knowledge and fire protection capability of rural and volunteer fire departments by providing basic wildland firefighting supplies and equipment.
