Robert Mathis

Associate Director, Field Operations Directorate

Robert Mathis is the Associate Director (AD) of Field Operations for the Office of Justice Services. He is a 30-year veteran of law enforcement; proudly served in the Army National Guard as a Combat Medical Specialist; and is an enrolled member of the Cherokee Nation. His law enforcement career is extremely diverse with a great balance of federal, tribal, county, municipal, training instructor and administrative experience. He has led as a Drug Task Force Commander, served as the Deputy Associate Director (DAD) of the Division of Drug Enforcement, Branch of Criminal Investigation and the Field Operations Divisions, Special Agent in Charge, Assistant Special Agent in Charge, Chief of Police, Special Agent, Police Officer with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. After 9/11 he became a Federal Air Marshal and also served as an Instructor at the Federal Air Marshal Training Center. He created one of the first Indian Country Drug Task Forces and directed it for six years. He has deployed to many natural disasters as part of the FEMA ESF-13 law enforcement response and has received numerous awards and recognition throughout his career. Most recently he served on the Secretary of the Interior’s Law Enforcement Task Force.
