NOTICE OF PURCHASED POWER ADJUSTMENT
COLORAD RIVER AGENCY – ELECTRICAL SERVICES
Pursuant to the Bureau of Indian Affairs regulations governing our electric power utilities, found at 25 CFR 175, notice is hereby given that the Colorado River Agency-Electrical Services (CRA-ES) is adjusting the purchased power cost (PCA) component of our rates. Effective June 29, 2023, we will charge all customers $0.04 per kilowatt-hour (kWh) consumed. This will replace the March 1, 2023, adjustment of $0.022 per kWh.
The CRA-ES generation units are undergoing repairs and are periodically unable to generate electricity; therefore, CRA-ES will be purchasing power occasionally from the Western Area Power Administration projects (Parker Davis and Salt Lake City Area Integrated Projects) and through short-term bilateral market transactions. Limited availability of summer energy resources has significantly increased power market rates, and the market rates are not within our control. Based on the best available information about the CRA-ES projected power purchase costs during this time, we need to implement the $0.04 per kilowatt-hour consumed for all customers effective June 29, 2023.
This PCA will remain in effect until we determine future adjustments are necessary. However, CRA-ES evaluates the status of the generation units and the power purchase costs on a monthly basis to re-assess the need for this PCA.
