Past Funded NTBG Grant Projects

In FY 2020, we gave over $1.2 million to tribes to help them explore opportunities to develop or expand broadband services in their communities.

In 2020, fifty-five proposals were submitted by tribal applicants—totaling over $2.5 million in requested funding. We often receive more proposals than can be funded by our annual budget, which is determined by Congress and varies on a year-to-year basis.

Submissions were reviewed and rated primarily on the potential positive impact that broadband would bring to an applicant’s community. The majority of grant recipients submitted proposals for broadband studies located in Opportunity Zones, which are economically distressed community where new investments may be eligible for preferential tax treatment under certain conditions.
