The OIED entered into a new NATIVE Act cooperative agreement with the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development (NCAIED) on July 10, 2024. The cooperative agreement will advance OIED’s work to implement the Native American Tourism and Improving Visitor Experience Act (NATIVE Act) of 2016 (Public Law 114-221), which calls for strengthening the collaboration and coordination of Federal assets and resources to promote Tribal tourism capacity on Federal and Tribal lands. NCAIED’s work under the cooperative agreement will be housed in its newly launched Native Edge Tourism Technical Assistance Center (NETTAC).
NETTAC’s initial work during the five-year cooperative agreement is focused on preparing needs assessments and data resources, providing direct technical assistance, and coordinating with Federal agencies, Tribes, Tribal organizations, and Native Hawaiian Organizations (NHOs). NETTAC’s team includes five regional Technical Assistance Specialists who provide outreach on Native tourism resources and one-on-one assistance to Tribes and Native entrepreneurs interested in growing tourism-based businesses.
