The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) is the lead federal regulator for the safe and environmentally responsible production of offshore energy. BSEE focuses on offshore wind energy facility designs, fabrication, installation, operation, and decommissioning, and enforces compliance with all applicable safety, environmental, and conservation laws and regulations. Its interdisciplinary team of experts develops offshore wind energy regulations and policies while considering potential impacts on Tribal interests. BSEE’s Tribal Liaison Officer leads the National Tribal Engagement Program, serving as the main contact for Tribal Nations, Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) Corporations, and the Native Hawaiian Community. Through formal consultations and informal dialogues, BSEE seeks to understand and respect the cultural values, beliefs, and rights of Indigenous Peoples affected by federal actions. The agency is dedicated to open and transparent communication with Tribal governments and Indigenous communities.
