Please do not use photographs that contain multiple photos or images.
In keeping with Section 508 standards and the WCAG 2.0 guidelines, the Web Team strongly recommends not using any photograph collages on any Indian Affairs or Bureau of Indian Education website (meaning the use of one photograph/image containing multiple photographs or images). This keeps with Section 508 standards and the WCAG 2.0 guidelines. The main concern over using these types of photos is the difficulty they present to screen readers and audio description software in describing the multiple photos via Alt Text. (Screen readers and audio descriptions cannot easily decipher photos if they contains various photos.)
However, if IA offices strongly feel the need of using a photo or image collage, please contact the Web Team for assistance. We have professional graphic designers in-house and we can also offer other solutions. The Public Affairs office and the Web Team reserve the right to remove any images from the IA and BIE websites that are deemed as not high-resolution images or not Section 508 compliant.
